Woman’s Club to host fundraising fashion show
by Rebecca Morris
Reporter

Women acting together can change the community for the better.

That’s the hope of the Leitchfield Woman’s Club, which is kicking off a new Semi-annual Community Improvement Project later this month.

In the past, the club has tackled efforts such as giving away trees to help replace those damaged or destroyed in the 2009 ice storm, and purchasing welcome signs for the city.

This time, members are joing forces with other community groups in what they’re calling “Project HELP.” Member Rita Stevenson said “HELP” is an acronym for “Hands, Energy, Lift and Provide.”

In all, the Woman’s Club will be doing seven different service projects, with proceeds going to other community groups. Stevenson said the club has already helped out with the Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship, Looking Out For Each Other, and the Center for Woman’s Ministries anti-domestic violence efforts.

Its next project is “Food, Fashion and Fun,” a local style show benefiting Clear Choices Pregnancy Resource Center.

Set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at St. Joseph Parrish Hall, the show will feature clothing and accessories from local businesses Caught Ya Lookin’, Wal-Mart, Whoop-De-Do Design, Goody’s, Something Beautiful, the Gift Shop at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, and Jamberry Nails consultant Megan Haynes. Stevenson said each business will be suppling its own models.

Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are $8 per person, and are available from Woman’s Club members, at the door or at Clear Choices.

This is the first fashion show the woman’s club has done in several years, Stevenson said.

The Woman’s Club also is hosting a performance of “Pinocchio” for Grayson County’s on Nov. 12, and plans to start its annual poinsettia sales in early December. Proceeds from the plant sales benefit the group’s shoe fund, which is used to buy shoes for children in the Grayson County School District.

Stevenson said people interested in buying the poinsettias can contact club members closer in coming weeks.
