The United Way of Central Kentucky is starting a new initiative this year with their First Annual Day of Caring event to be held on Saturday, July 21.

The event, which the group hopes to make an annual program, is a region-wide day for volunteers in the program’s five-county service area to connect with nonprofit organizations needing help with a variety of tasks.

Individuals, families and company teams may participate, and will be matched with “meaningful projects addressing community and agency needs,” according to a news release from UWCK.

Nonprofit agencies submitting proposals for volunteers may request any task that “improves the facilities or services of their organization including: painting, landscaping, building a wheelchair ramp, entering data, bulk mailing, or playing games or reading with children or the elderly, as well as other volunteer projects,” the organization says.

With such an endless variety of needs among community service organizations, there is room for all sorts of volunteers.

“UWCK brings together necessary resources, i.e., volunteer time and talent, money, advocacy, and local business and industry, with the goal of improving peoples’ lives and creating hope for a better tomorrow,” the press release says.

Christopher Wilborn, Executive Director of UWCK said of the event, “We are looking forward to our first-ever Day of Caring event. It is a perfect example of what it means to ‘live united’ and how United Way aspires to bring individuals and groups together in order to advance the common good.”
