A special meeting was called by the Grayson County School Board to approve last-minute additions and revisions regarding upcoming plumbing renovations at both the high school and H. W. Wilkey Elementary School.
Significant renovations to the aging school buildings’ plumbing systems are greatly needed, according to Superintendent Barry Anderson, and will begin as soon as school dismisses for the summer in mid-May.
Work at the high school is expected to take a greater amount of time, so the group decided to break those renovations into two phases. Phase One will be completed this summer, while Phase Two is scheduled for next summer. All work at Wilkey Elementary is scheduled to be finished this summer before students return for the 2013-14 school year.
The group also voted to apply for a Qualified Zone Academy Bond (QZAB) for the high school project. This interest-free bond could save the school system a great deal of money, if approved.
“It’s saving us six figures if we get approved,” said Director of Finance Kerry White, “They haven’t approved us yet, but hopefully they will.”
While he said the odds look good that they will be approved for the QZAB, he said they do have a “Plan B” in place in case it does not go as expected.
