Bike trails could be the next project undertaken by Leitchfield’s Tourism Commission.
Tuesday morning, commissioners discussed ways of creating mountain biking paths in the city, both for use by local residents and as a draw for visitors.
They noted expanded biking options are available as nearby as Mammoth Cave and Nolin River Lake, so local trails would likely attract riders looking for new experiences.
Commission members, biking group representatives and public works director Darrell Harrell will try to meet in coming weeks to determine if a path could be developed on or around the former city landfill.
In other action, the commission OK’d proceeding with efforts to determine if a 15,000-square-foot indoor/outdoor pool complex, at a cost of about $5 million or less, is feasible.
