Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center was named to the list of ‘Best Places to Work in KY’ by the Kentucky Society for Human Resources Management (KYSHRM) in conjunction with the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

The list of the top 40 companies employing more than 250 people was released in January, though the final rankings among those businesses will not be revealed until the group’s awards ceremony on April 16 at the Lexington Convention Center.

Based on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” list, rankings were assigned after reviewing employer benefits and policies as well as employee engagement and satisfaction surveys.

Employee surveys focused on a number of main areas, including leadership and planning, corporate culture and communications, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits and overall engagement. These surveys accounted for 75 percent of the company’s overall score.

In order to qualify, a business was required to have at least 45 percent of employees choose to voluntarily participate in the survey. According to TLRMC CEO Wayne Meriweather, more than 60 percent of the hospital’s employees chose to participate.

“It’s something we’re very proud of,” Meriweather said on Tuesday, adding, “It’ll be a tradition that we’re going to want to continue.”

He said that the ranking is proof that the hospital’s employees “want to be here - they’re here for the right reasons.” He also said that it will help to attract new employees to add to “an already great staff.”

Competition for the top spots was stiff, as the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce alone represents 2,700 member businesses - from family-owned shops to Fortune 500 companies - that employ over half of the Commonwealth’s workforce. Also, falling into the ‘large business’ category meant that TLRMC was competing against the largest companies across the state.

Last year’s ranking included Warren Rural Electric Cooperative, a south-central Kentucky company with a local office, which was placed among the top companies in the state.
