Repair Affair deadline approaching
by Brittany Wise

The Friday, April 5 deadline is fast-approaching for applicants to receive assistance during the annual Repair Affair Day, hosted by the Grayson County Alliance.

The program, which is held each spring in Grayson County, is designed to assist those in need of essential home repairs who do not have the funds or ability to make the repairs themselves.

The group’s public relations representative, Betty Whitten, said that while there are plenty of volunteer teams signed up to work on homes during the upcoming May 18 event, they have been surprised to find a dwindling number of homeowner applicants.

Whitten said that the group may even extend the deadline this year in order to accommodate those who could not get their applications turned in by the fifth.

According to Donna Wilson, Director of the Alliance’s Food Pantry, applications may be picked up there on Tuesday or Friday between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. or on Wednesday morning between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The food pantry is located at 125 East Market Street, across from the public library.

Guidelines for applicants needing home repairs include owning their own home, having available financial resources of less than $5,000, living in Grayson County, and being either disabled or over the age of 62.
