Grayson County residents will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with their local law enforcement officers and emergency responders during the annual Spring Take-Back event on Saturday, April 27.

Leitchfield Chief of Police Kevin Henderson announced at the Leitchfield City Council meeting on Monday, April 1 that he is collaborating with Kentucky State Police (KSP) Master Trooper Norman Chaffins to host the event.

In a seperate interview, Chaffins said the event will take place as a part of the annual National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, and individuals will have the opportunity to anonymously donate old prescription drugs to the KSP Drug Trailer.

Henderson said he wants to take the opportunity to allow members of the community to become better acquainted with himself and their local law enforcement and emergency responders by providing a number of family friendly activities, as well.

Henderson said he plans to bring in a medical aircraft and a Tiny Town, which will have miniature streets, buildings, and traffic signs, and children will have the opportunity to ride through the “town” on tricycles.

In addition, Henderson said he also hopes to bring in an ID machine from the Louisville Metro Police Department, which will allow parents to have identification photos and fingerprints taken of their children in case of emergency.

Chaffins said representatives from the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD), KSP, Grayson County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD), Grayson County Emergency Medical Service (GC EMS), and the Leitchfield Fire Department (LFD) will attend.

Chaffins said the KSP, in addition to its drug trailer, will also have its “Rollover Truck,” which simulates a rollover car accident; GC EMS will have an ambulance; and the LFD will have a fire truck at the event.

The Spring Take-Back will have concessions for attendees and is tentatively planned to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Leitchfield.
