Holiday events highlight week at Rough River Dam State Park

Several activities are planned next week at Rough River Dam State Resort Park to celebrate Independence Day. They include:

Wednesday, July 4:

9 a.m. — Nature walk along the Lake Ridge Nature Trail. The hike will start from the patio behind Grayson’s Landing restaurant and last about 30 minutes. Wearing closed-toe shoes is recommended.

Noon – Water balloon games, including tosses and volleyball. The games will start behind the pool and recreation office, and last about 30 minutes.

8-9 p.m. – S’more Social at the fire pit, on the grassy point between the lake shore and the lodge’s swimming pool. In addition to free S’mores, cornhole boards will be set up for some friendly games.

Thursday, July 5 , Friday, July 6, Saturday, July 7, and Sunday, July 8:

10 a.m. and 2 p.m., all days – Lady of the Lake II boat tours. Cost of the 1 ½ hour tour is $8 for adults and $3 for kids age 5 and older. Seating capacity is limited, with reservations taken at the front desk of the lodge.

Friday, July 6:

2-3 p.m. – Reptile Zoo program with reptile expert Scott Shupe. The hour-long program will be held in the lodge’s Terrace Room.

8-9 p.m. – Wacky mini golf at the miniature golf course. Play miniature golf with different “wacky” items to putt with at each hole, such as pool cues and croquet mallets. Games are free, but children must be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.

Saturday, July 7:

8- 9:30 a.m. – “Hooked on Fishing” competition. Bait and equipment will be provided while supplies last, or participants can bring their own. The event will be held at the lake shore near the swimming beach. Closed-toe shoes are recommended. Participants age 16 and older must have a valid Kentucky fishing license.

Noon – Watermelon eating contest at the grassy area behind the recreation office and pool. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest eaters in three age categories. Sign up at the lodge’s front desk.

Dusk — The “Rumble Over Rough” fireworks show over the lake begins. Bring your own seating.
