More than 75 family members, friends and former co-workers were on hand at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center Tuesday, July 17, for the unveiling of a plaque remembering the late Jerry Mattingly.

Mattingly had worked at TLRMC, and its predecessor, Grayson County War Memorial Hospital, for more than 42 years before his sudden death in March.

“Jerry embodied the spirit which we would hope everyone within our organization would have,” hospital CEO Steve Meredith said. “He was positive, committed, engaging, compassionate, and a friend to everyone he met and interacted with. Our hospital and our world are better places because Jerry passed this way. He will be long remembered, and it was an honor and privilege to know him.”

The wooden plaque, engraved by John Allen at T-Shirt Express in Leitchfield, reads: “In loving memory of Jerry Mattingly. Jerry Mattingly was a loyal dedicated employee of Grayson County War Memorial Hospital and Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for over 42 years. Jerry always had a smile on his face and a joyful greeting for everyone he saw. Jerry had a kind and giving spirit that will be missed by family, employees, patients and the community for years to come.”

It is displayed on a wall across from the main entrance to the hospital’s cafeteria.

Mattingly’s former supervisor, hospital director of plant operations Carey Sims, said he “was a trusted mentor and friend to everyone in the department, the type of person you feel comfortable sharing life stories with.”

Mattingly’s wife Susie, who also works at the hospital, and his daughter Brittany, son Joey, daughter-in-law Amanda, and grandchildren Samuel and Railey attended the ceremony.
