The accident occurred near the 101 mile post. Witnesses to the accident stated that a 1999 Toyota Corolla driven by Paul Lehmenkuler, age 24, of Vine Grove, was following another vehicle that was east bound and having trouble.
Lehmenkuler was following to make sure the vehicle made it to a place to get help. The two vehicles were traveling in the emergency lane when they met a maintenance truck also inn the emergency lane.
When the two attempted to pass the maintenance vehicle by moving to the right lane of the eastbound side the Lehmenkuler vehicle was struck in the side by a 2000 Dodge caravan driven by Lisa K. Jackson, age 25, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jackson said she just didn't have time to react to the vehicles entering the roadway, nor did she see the vehicle's hazard lights.
Both vehicles came to rest in the median of the parkway. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. Jackson also had a passenger in her vehicle, her three month old daughter Heather.
Lehmenkuler was treated at the scene by Grayson County EMS personnel and then transported to the Twin Lakes regional Medical Center for treatment of possible neck injuries. No other injuries were reported.
As the crews were working the accident many drivers sped on oblivious tothen accident and the emergency personnel attending the injured and cleaning up the accident scene. Be aware, there is a law that calls for drivers to slow and,or change lanes when there are emergency crews on the roadways of Kentucky.
