Grayson County Sheriff's Department Detective Terry Blanton Monday (Nov. 14) said that around noon on Saturday a Ford Taurus being driven by Timothy D. Clemons, 36, of Bloomington Road, Leitchfield, was traveling towards Leitchfield on Salt River Road when his vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road and down an embankment near the bridge.
After leaving the roadway, Blanton reported that Clemons' vehicle struck a sign and several trees before finally coming to rest.
Blanton said that Clemons was flown directly from the scene by helicopter to a Louisville hospital after sustaining serious injuries as a result of the crash.
Also injured in Saturday's accident was a passenger in Clemons' car, Nathan Roof, 27, also of Bloomington Road.
Roof was transported from the scene, Blanton said, by the Grayson County EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
As a result of the accident, traffic on Salt River Road was reportedly blocked for several hours as emergency personnel worked to remove the two men from the vehicle.
Blanton said that the investigation into Saturday's accident is still-ongoing and at this point he suspects alcohol may have played a role in the crash, as deputies reportedly found alcohol in what was left of Clemons' severely damaged vehicle.
