The wife of state Rep. C.B. Embry Jr. is continuing to recover after being bitten in the face by a pit bull at a Morgantown business.
Wanda Lou Embry was bitten by the dog Thursday, June 7, as she tried to enter The Kompany Hair and Day Spa.
Rep. Embry (R-17th District), said his wife had planned to visit the hair salon in advance of accompanying him to an event in Leitchfield that evening.
A customer had brought the pit bull to the salon with her, leaving it in her car with the windows down. The dog somehow got out of the car and was by the steps leading into the salon when Mrs. Embry arrived shortly before 3 p.m., her husband said.
She didn’t notice the dog until it jumped up and bit the left side of her face, Embry said.
She had five cuts and punctures on her face, he said. The couple went to a Bowling Green hospital that afternoon, where it was recommended that Mrs. Embry begin taking anti-rabies shots after they learned the dog’s shots were not current.
She had four shots that night, Embry said, and will have to continue taking them for several more days. Her next injection is scheduled for Thursday in Bowling Green, he said.
Doctors have said she likely will not need cosmetic surgery to repair any damage from the bites, Embry said.
Mrs. Embry could not be reached for comment.
According to a Morgantown police report, the 4 1/2 year old pit bull is owned by Trisha Gist. She told police she was in the salon at the time of the attack and the dog was under the supervision of Ricky Wilholt.
Wilholt told police he did not realize the dog could get out through the window. He had returned to the business and was inside when the bite happened.
The Butler County Health Department recommended the pit bull be quarantined for 10 days to make sure it doesn’t have rabies. It is is currently quarantined at The Doggie Barber, a pet grooming business owned by Gist.
Gist is charged with a leash law violation.
Embry said his wife finally made it back to the salon on Saturday — and made sure there were no dogs hanging around outside this time.
