A potentially fatal one-vehicle accident on Tuesday, May 29, surprised authorities by leaving the vehicle’s three occupants unharmed.

Rick Clark, 55, of Benton, was travelling east on Western Kentucky Parkway approximately three miles west of the City of Leitchfield in a 2007 General Motors Yukon Denali when the accident occurred, according to the accident report filed by Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons.

Clark stated to the responding officer that he lost traction briefly, thought he had regained control of the vehicle, and then lost traction again, causing the SUV to slide off of the inside shoulder of the parkway.

The vehicle then proceeded to roll two times before coming to a rest in the west-bound lane of traffic.

Clemons said that the accident could easily have been fatal, but luckily Clark and the other two occupants of the vehicle, 41-year-old Michelle Clark, and 18-year-old Chase Clark, both also of Benton, were all wearing their seatbelts and managed to walk away unscathed.

The vehicle, which was very severely damaged, was removed from the parkway by Stevenson’s Wrecker Service.
