An accident late Friday left a utility pole broken in half, but caused no injuries to the occupant of the vehicle.

Just before midnight, Ricgard Shoenlaub, of Church of God Road in Custer, was traveling west on US 62 East when he left the roadway, ran off of the left shoulder of the road, and struck a utility pole head on, according to the police report by Officer Renfrow of the Leitchfield Police Department.

An unidentified bystander contacted the 911 dispatch center to advice that there had been an accident just east of the Dollar General Store.

According to Renfrow, Shoenlaub sustained no injuries, though his 2004 Chevrolet Colorado displayed severe damage to the front, top and driver’s side.

Renfrow contacted Kentucky Utilities and was advised that although they use the pole to connect their lines, the utility poles themselves actually belong to Windstream. Windstream advised that they would repair the pole at a later date, as it’s position was not blocking the roadway and caused no hazard.

Sonny’s Wrecker Service was contacted to remove the vehicle from the scene.
