Anetta Road was blocked for several hours after a the driver of a log truck ran off the roadway dumped his load of logs into a ditch.
Wednesday morning around 9:45, Gerold O’Connell of Leitchfield, stated he was traveling south on Anetta Road when he crested a hill and realized traffic was stopped due to an accident in the 4200 block, reported Grayson County Chief Deputy Sheriff Tony Willen.
O’Connell was unable to stop the 1991 truck owned by S & S Slate Co, of Mortons Gap, Ky., which was fully loaded with logs. The driver went off the road into the right ditch to avoid impact with the vehicles that were stopped in front of him.
The truck turned on its side and several of the logs spilled onto the hill next to the road.
The first accident had occurred minutes earlier when a dump truck collided with a Kia Sedona van, both of whom were attempting to pass a sanitation truck.
Randall Decker, of Leitchfield, was driving a dump truck south on Anetta road and when he came over the hill he noticed a sanitation truck stopped in the road and a van behind it with its flashers on. All three vehicles were driving in the same direction.
Decker stated that he could stop his vehicle so he attempted to pass the van and the sanitation truck just as the driver Linda Rieldy of Leitchfield, pulled out in an attempt to pass the garbage truck, reported Willen.
Rieldy stated she had been following the garbage truck when the truck came to a stop in front of 4205 Anneta Road and when she knew the truck was stopped she looked northbound to see if anything was coming and began to pass the sanitation truck.
The dump truck then struck the van on the left rear side.
No one was injured during the accident but the roadway was blocked for several hours.
