Leitchfield’s residents are among its greatest assets, and one of the reasons the community is thriving, its mayor said this week.
Mayor William H. Thomason was the featured speaker at the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce’s January membership luncheon.
He touched on some of the developments of recent decades, such as the community partnerships that helped make possible The Centre on Main, the development of the softball fields and walking path at James D. Beville Community Park, the recycling center, the east side bypass and the city’s Tourism Commission.
He also spoke of future developments, such as the planned new pool by Beville Park and the local campus of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, and what they will mean to the community.
“A concern I’ve heard most often from the community is jobs,” Thomason said. “We want our children and our children’s children to have jobs and to be able to remain in our community.”
He said economic development is something city and county leaders continue to work on, and recognized the committment of the business community in helping keep the area vibrant.
It takes strong leaders and residents with open ears and minds to make a community strong, the mayor said.
He noted former mayor Beville’s customary comment when anyone asked how he was doing: “better than good.”
“That’s us, each of us, in our own way,” Thomason said.
