A fire that destroyed a home in the Big Clifty area early Wednesday morning rekindled itself around 2 a.m. Friday morning and caused firefighters to battle the blaze for another seven hours.
The original fire began Wednesday, September 16, and destroyed the home at 9316 Elizabethtown Road around 6: 40 a.m.
“The fire had smoldered inside the home and was so hot that we had to call for help from Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire departments,” said East Grayson County Fire Chief Bob Williams home “The fire was so hot several of our firefighters became physically ill from the heat.”
East Grayson County Fire Department cleared the scene on Wednesday just after noon, reported Williams, and on Friday, September 18, when the fire rekindled the fire fighters were on the scene from 2 a.m. until after 9:30 a.m.
Williams reported the homeowners, Nick Finn and his wife Dana, were not at home at the time of the fire and the cause is thought to be electrical which appears to have started around the dryer receptacle.
The home was a total loss and the couple along with their toddler are staying with family and are being assisted by the American Red Cross, reported Williams.
