A Caneyville man was injured in a Sunday evening wreck that left him and his passenger in a creek off of Shrewsbury Road.

20-year-old Stoy D. Decker was travelling west on Shrewsbury Road about five miles west of the city of Leitchfield when the accident occurred at around 7:15 p.m., according to the accident report filed by Sheriff Rick Clemons of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.

Decker told Clemons that when a deer ran out in front of his 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, he swerved to miss it. At that point, it appears that Decker lost control of the vehicle and travelled down a ditch.

The vehicle came to a rest when it struck an embankment in a creek, having sustained severe damage.

Decker, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of collision, was treated at the scene and transferred to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by Grayson County EMS. According to the report, he suffered non-incapacitating head and/or face injuries.

A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Tabytha Meredith, of Leitchfield, was uninjured.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by Donnie King Wrecker Service.
