Deviney, who sometimes has been missing in action at the offensive end of the court this season, looked for his shots more in this game and finished the night with a team-high 14 points. His efforts on the boards have been more consistent so far this year and in this one Deviney led the team with 12 rebounds.
A three-pointer by Breck's Todd Weatherholt gave the Tigers (7-11) a 5-2 lead at the 5:06 mark of the first quarter. The Cougars (14-8) answered with a 10-0 run, including threes from Travis Johnston and Jordan Mudd, to take a 12-5 lead with under a minute left in the period. They would never trail again the rest of the night.
A three-pointer by Wes Smith at the 2:23 mark of the second period gave the Cougars their largest lead of the first half, 12 points at 24-12, but the Tigers outscored them 10-5 the rest of the period and trailed by just seven, 29-22 at the half.
A rebound basket by Breck's Justin Oliver closed the gap to six points, 35-29 with 4:31 left in the third quarter, but the Cougars ran off seven straight, including a Bryant Clemons three to make it a 13-point game, 42-29 with 1:17 left in the period. Grayson County led by 11, 42-31 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the final period with an 8-2 run that pulled them to within five points, 44-39 at the 5:32 mark. After the Cougars ran the lead back to nine points, the Tigers got back to within seven, 49-42 with three minutes remaining, but that would be their last gasp. Grayson County scored seven straight to go up by 14 points with 34 seconds left.
Breck's Jeremiah Stinnett led all scorers in the game, finishing with 21 points.
Smith joined Deviney in double figures with 11 points. Johnston finished with nine points and added three rebounds, a team-high five assists and two steals. Bennett Skaggs had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
Mudd and Clemons had five points apiece, while Tyler Saltsman and Hunter Gary had two each to complete the scoring. Saltsman also added five boards to his line for the night.
