For the past two months a Clarkson church has been serving as a host site for the Great Food For All food drive, which allows families a more reasonable alternative to ever- increasing grocery-item prices.
GFFA is a faith-based, non-denominational company, which provides top-quality food products to people on a monthly basis.
A number of volunteers from Clarkson Baptist Church, located off of Elizabethtown Road, have dedicated their time to help offer the food program to the public.
Volunteers are currently taking orders for December delivery.
There is no specific income limit to take advantage of the food order purchases. No one will be turned away that wants to buy food from the Great Food For All program.
GFFA Ministry Coordinator Marsha Young explained on November 14, the delivery date for October orders, a little more about the food drive.
The way the system works is that food is separated into different box categories. Some of the examples are a basic food box, empty nester’s box, kid’s box and a holiday dessert box.
Orders are taken each month for the month to follow. For instance, if a family purchases a box in November, then the items will be delivered to the host site (Clarkson Baptist Church) on December 12.
There is still time for people to order food at the church, or online at www.clarksonbaptist.org. The online option is a brand new feature for the church. Before, volunteers could only accept cash payments.
Families can visit the church on November 18 from 5-6 p.m. The only stipulation, when placing the order there, is that cash only is accepted.
If shopping online, one must pay with credit card, and pick up the items on December 12 at the church.
Young added that so far almost 100 families have benefited from the food drive.
She said that 46 families had orders to pick up for November, and at least 50 people placed orders already for December delivery.
During the week is the busiest time for families buying food items.
Church volunteer Bari Behnken talked about how she felt the drive has impacted families in the area.
“There are no specific income rates for people wanting to order,” Behnken urged. “It applies to anyone in Grayson County. We have had a terrific impact with this food drive. This is only our second month. As people came in to order for November we asked them if they ordered in October, and they love it.”
With each order, inside the boxes, customers will find a paper that tells them what is enclosed and also how to prepare everything.
“The quality of the food is really good,” Behnken said. “I got a dessert box before and it had four cheesecakes in it for $22. They were gorgeous cheesecakes, baked by the Cheesecake Factory.”
Clarkson Baptist Church is the only organization in the county that offers the GFFA services.
