The first-ever Rough River Lake Cardboard Boat Regatta will be Saturday, June 23, at the North Fork Campground beach. Boat drop-off and inspection starts at 9 a.m., with judging at noon. The races will begin at 1 p.m. Registration is $15 per boat through June 21, and $25 June 22 and 23. No registrations will be accepted after 11 a.m. June 23.
Boats must be made entirely from cardboard. The cardboard can be any thickness, but cannot be bonded to any other material, and hulls cannot be coated with any materials. Only joints and seams can be taped or glued. Boats can’t exceed 16 feet in length.
Entries will be accepted in four classes: school, civic or scout group; parent and child, ages 16-49, and ages 50 and over. Boats will be judged on best overall decorations, most entertaining group and their “Titanic,” or sinkability, factor.
