The six applicants for the position of new Leitchfield Police Chief were announced at the regularly scheduled Leitchfield City Council meeting on Monday, March 4.

The applicants are Brandon Cook, Bryan Hammons, Tim Moutardier, Kevin Henderson, Ernie Steff, and MacGregor Wright, all of whom have previous police experience, either with the city, county sheriff, or elsewhere.

Interviews will begin on March 13 at 5 p.m. and will be performed by Mayor William Thomason and Leitchfield City Council members Harold Miller, Margaret Fey, and Steven Elder.

The City Council also heard the first reading of the bond ordinance for the construction and operation expenses of the new aquatic center project.

Chip Sutherland and Christian Juckett, lawyers from the Rubin & Hays lawfirm, read through the proposed bonds.

Juckett said the maximum bond total would be $4.9 million, and the payback will be over a 25-year term at a rate of $270,000-275,000 per year. Bids for competitive bond issues will be held on April 9, Juckett said.

In other news:

• Local resident Manuela Mattingly and her attorney Anthony Cash, of the Hardin Law Office, presented their intent to file a lawsuit against AT&T for the company’s poor service and failure to comply to its portion of the AT&T customer contract. Cash said he is in the preliminary stages of the lawsuit investigation and encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact him via his office phone at 270-971-1214 or e-mail at anthonycashlaw@gmail.com.

• Leitchfield City Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson said City Tourism will be applying for two grants via the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act of 1965 to repair the walking track at James D. Beville Community Park and to apply trees and shrubs to the Kenneth H. Goff Industrial Park.

• Johnson also presented the design for the new aquatic center and District Commissioner of Baseball Jose Soto’s proposed layout for the new multi-purpose recreational facility at James D. Beville Community Park.

• Leitchfield City Clerk/Treasurer Erin Embry discussed local resident Theresa Armstrong’s contribution to the multi-purpose recreational facility project, and the City Council passed a motion to name the concession stand after Armstrong’s son Deuce Dunn.
• Local resident Linda Baxter detailed to the City Council repeated attacks on her husband and her dog by a neighbor’s dog in recent weeks. Baxter said she filed a complaint with the County Attorney’s Office, and the case is currently awaiting a court date, but she said she was concerned about the lack of action to prevent further attacks. Baxter said she had repeatedly confronted her neighbor about the dog and had reported the incidents to police, but attacks continued. Leitchfield Police Chief Bart Glenn told Baxter to notify police if the dog came onto her propery, and the dog could be picked up; otherwise, the case would need to go through the court system.
