An alleged drunk driver caused a collision with another vehicle late Friday night on Shrewsbury Road (Highway 187) in Leitchfield.

According to Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputy Jarrod Mudd, LifeNet transported one driver via helicopter to a Louisville hospital and the other was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by EMS. Both drivers were treated for injuries and later released.

Thomas James Ashcraft, 19, Grayson County was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana.

Mudd explained that Ashcraft fled from the scene of the accident on foot, but ended up returning. That is when officers found marijuana on Ashcraft.

The other driver, Matthew Clark, 26, Grayson County was flown to Louisville for injuries.

Clark was headed southbound on Shrewsbury Road, and was making a right turn when he was rear-ended by Ashcraft.

The extended-cab Ford Ranger, driven by Clark, came to rest in a ditch. Ashcraft’s Ford Bronco ended up crashing into a tree on the opposite side of the road.

Leitchfield Fire Department also assisted with the call.
