Andrew Graff Hamilton III, a native of Edmonson County, and a resident of Bowling Green for over 50 years, died Monday, October 1, 2012.
He was born January 29, 1919 and moved to Bowling Green in 1949. Mr. Hamilton was the son of the late Andrew Graff Hamilton II and Pansy Bolton Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons Charles Henry Hamilton and Lewis Millette Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton retired as Vice President of American National Bank & Trust Company and was previously employed as Manager of Kentucky Finance Co. and Superintendent of KY Houses of Reform, 1946-1948, in Greendale, KY.
Mr. Hamilton graduated from Sunfish School and was a Veteran of WWII, Tech Sgt. with the 836th Engineers / Aviation battalion in the South Pacific. He attended WKU where he played basketball for Coach Diddle from 1939-1941 and then later graduated in 1952 after his military commitments.
Mr. Hamilton was a Member of First Christian Church (D.O.C.) where he was Past Chairman of the Board, Treasurer, & Elder Emeritus. He was a 60-plus year member of Reedyville Lodge # 438, KY Consumer Finance “Man of the Year” 1963, a 30 year member of Civitan Club & BG Elks Club. He served as first male President of Bowling Green Girls Club, former member and past president of Warren County Historical Society & Landmark Assoc., Served over 30 years with Planning & Zoning Commission where he served as Chairman from 1987 - 1996, A Kentucky Colonel and Ducks Unlimited Member/Sponsor.
Survivors include Janet Omer Hamilton, wife of 69 years, Linda Hamilton McNevin, daughter, sisters Arieta Houchen, of Leitchfield, KY., Norma Faye Webb, of Leitchfield, KY., Ann H Mills, of Louisville, KY, grandchildren, Katherine L. Hart, of Dry Ridge, KY., Kimberly J. Hart, of Indialantic, FL, John H. Hart, of Johannesburg, South Africa, and great grandchildren, Sky R. Drawdy, Conrad H. Hart, and John M. Hart
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 4, 2012 at First Christian Church in Bowling Green.
