Balloons and laughter filled the air at Thursday’s Adoption Day festivities, an event which celebrated the efforts of local judges and child advocates as well as the loving, permanent families that a number of children have received thanks to those efforts.

“Its a wonderful day!” said Judge Kenneth Goff, II, who helped to organize and pull off the event along with Judge Shan Embry and a team of helpers who hold these children who have been in need of long-term homes near and dear to their hearts.

A recent push toward overcoming the obstacles that can often draw out the adoption process has richly rewarded many area children by placing them in life-long families. On Thursday alone, ten children were adopted, as Judge Bruce Butler heard adoption cases all day long.

Butler beamed as he looked over the room full of bustling children and their new parents, summing it up as simply “a happy day,” a sentiment that could be heard over and over throughout the room.

Smiles were contagious as was the sense of camaraderie. Embry explained that it took a lot of people working together to accomplish these adoptions, including the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, District and Circuit Court Judges, as well as the families themselves and child advocates such as CASA volunteers.

She said that they all hope to “encourage and maintain the relationship that we’ve been able to find,” and would love to see the Adoption Day celebration become an annual event.
