The Lady Cougar freshman team completed an undefeated season Saturday morning by winning all three games to take the 3rd Region Championship Tournament, held at Muhlenberg County High School.


The Lady Cougars defeated Butler County 48-35 in the first-round matchup. The Lady Bears led 13-11 after the first period of play, but Grayson County caught them in the second period to lead 26-19 at the half. Butler County was never closer in the second half.


Eight-grader Hannah Saltsman led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 13 points against the Lady Bears, while Leslie Swafford scored 10.


In the second game, the Lady Cougars faced McLean County. In a tight contest, the Lady Cougars took a 10-7 lead after the first period and still led by three, 24-21 at the half. They moved the lead to six points after the third period then outscored McLean 10-6 in the fourth quarter to take a 10-point, 42-32 win to advance to the championship round. Allie Horton led the Lady Cougars with 11 points.


In the title game the Lady Cougars faced the host team, the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs. Shannon Smith had a big game for Grayson County, hitting four three-pointers and finishing with a game-high 16 points as the Lady Cougars won easily, 45-31. Grace White also scored in double figures with 11 points.
