It was an 80’s flashback as GCHS Art teachers Beverly Dowell, Lindsey Harrod and 19 seniors attended a performance of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages” at SKyPAC in Bowling Green. The Tony-nominated musical, with its mix of rocking 80’s hits turned out to be a real “hit” with the group, many of whom decked out in leggings and really big hair for the event.

“That was awesome” was the post-performance buzz phrase, according to both teachers.

“They really enjoyed that it pertained to their age group,” said Harrod.

The trip was part of first-year teacher Harrod’s leadership project. Students were surveyed last fall about arts events, and “very interested in attending music performances in the survey,” she said. “I wanted to give them that opportunity with this field trip.”

Harrod has also posted an Arts bulletin board in the high school Commons this year, so students can stay up to date on the variety of arts events and performances available relatively nearby.
