Grayson County orchestra teachers Adam and Stacy French have been selected Directors of the Year by KY American String Teacher Association (KY ASTA). ASTA membership includes private and public school teachers, professional performers, amateur players, and university students and teachers.

The Frenches were nominated and ultimately selected for the honor based on their individualized work with students, especially after school, and availability of private lessons - many paid for by the orchestra. The tremendous growth of the strings program was also a factor in the decision. Just five years ago when Adam took the reins, only 75 students were in the entire program. His wife, Stacy, joined him two years later, and their numbers now stand at around 270 - phenomenal growth by any standard.

The duo was completely surprised when the award was presented at the ASTA meeting by Dr. Bill Scott, Director of Orchestras at Western Kentucky University. Expressing appreciation for administration and community support for music education, Stacy French added “We are so very proud to represent the county at the state level in receiving this award.”
