Day care placed on precautionary lockdown
Police seek suspect in domestic incident
Telegraph staff report
ALTON — Alton Day Care and Learning Center was put on a precautionary lockdown Monday morning while Alton police searched for a man involved in a domestic incident.
The Alton Police Department sent an officer to the school as a safety precaution while they attempted to track down an individual who was involved in a prior domestic incident, Alton Police Public Information Director Emily Hejna said.
“We are investigating an incident. There has been no confirmed threat against the day care at this time,” Hejna said.
The person in question is believed to have children who attend the day care, prompting the precautions. Hejna said the department had an officer stationed at another location as well while they looked for the man.
Alton police Monday night continued to look for Jerry A. Thomas, 27, the 300 block of Mitchell Street in Alton. Police said Thomas is wanted for aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony; and domestic battery, a Class 4 felony and his second subsequent offense. Bond was set at $60,000.
Hejna asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to call the Alton Police Department at 618-463-3505.
