Grayson County and Leitchfield Tourism are joining forces to promote local attractions during the 2014 Kentucky State Fair, which begins Thursday, Aug. 14.

The Kentucky State Fair will run through Sunday, Aug. 24, and Grayson County will have a presence from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. CST every day of the event.

Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson said Leitchfield and Grayson County Tourism are splitting the cost of a booth at this year’s state fair and will run it together.

“We’re working together as a team,” Johnson said.

Visitors to the tourism booth will have the opportunity to sit in the popular oversized rocking chair, which is large enough to seat five individuals.

Those who do so and snap a picture are encouraged to post the photo to the Grayson County Tourism Facebook page for a chance to win a one-night stay at Hatfield Inn, dinner for two at Midtown Cafe, and Leitchfield Aquatic Center (LAC) passes, said Grayson County Tourism Director Brittany Gary.

The photo with the most “likes” will win the give-away.

County Tourism will offer Rough River Dam State Resort Park and Nolin Lake State Park give-aways, as well.

The winner of the Rough River give-away will receive a two-night stay in one of the park’s cottages, Pine Knob Theater tickets, and LAC passes.

The winner of the Nolin Lake give-away will receive a pontoon rental from the Wax marina, a $30 Smitty City gift card, and LAC passes.

Literature and brochures detailing local attractions and events, honey candy, and other hand-outs will also be available at the Grayson County booth.

Leitchfield Tourism will be operating under the theme of “Filled with fun, surrounded by adventure” this year. The theme highlights the attractions within the City of Leitchfield (“filled with fun”) and the twin lakes, Rough River and Nolin (“surrounded by adventure”).

Leitchfield Tourism will also give away a number of LAC passes, as well as information about the aquatic center, Freedom and Fiddling, the Grayson County Fair, the Ride Around Central Kentucky, and other local events.

The Kentucky State Fair will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center, located at 937 Phillips Lane in Louisville. For more information, visit www.kystatefair.org.
