A potential buyer of the Alexander Hotel addressed the Leitchfield City Council during its regularly scheduled Monday, April 7 meeting.
Michael Elmore, whose mother is a native of Leitchfield, said he wanted to present his resumé and plan with estimated costs for the hotel and theatre should he decide to purchase it.
Elmore said he would like to bring in about 15 to 20 adult females, ages 18-30 who are coming out of the foster care system and have a “good track record,” to house them in the hotel and educate them in the culinary field.
They would learn all elements of the culinary business from certified teaching chefs and operate a new restaurant in the hotel, Elmore said.
The facility would be non-alcoholic and non-smoking, he said.
Elmore said he’d also like to renovate the hotel’s theatre to play older movies at no charge to the public.
Due to the smaller size of the theatre, it wouldn’t be financially feasible to play first-run movies, but older movies that can be screened without copyright fees could be played for free, Elmore said.
The theatre would play movies on Sunday through Thursday of each week and, possibly, play a children’s movie earlier in the evening and follow that with a feature film, he said.
The next step for Elmore is to take a walk-through tour of the building, located on Public Square in Letichfield, with an architect.
