A Wood River man is dead after losing control of is motorcycle on Illinois Route 140 Sunday afternoon.
According to a press release issued by Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn, Dustin E. Aldridge, 27, was the operator of a 2007 Suzuki GSX-600 travelling eastbound on Illinois Route 140 near Stanley Road when he lost control of the motorcycle, striking a curb and a roadway sign before the motorcycle came to rest. The incident occurred at 1:06 p.m.
Aldridge was taken by ambulance to Alton Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency department at 1:33 p.m. Nonn said the decedent was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
According to the release, an X-ray examination of the decedent indicated that he died as the result of a fractured neck. Routine toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol or drugs will be performed. The Alton Police Department continues their investigation of the incident.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
