To the Editor:
September 26th is officially Mesothelioma Awareness Day in the Commonwealth of KY. We promote mesothelioma awareness and Mesothelioma Awareness Day in memory of our son, Todd Hall, and initiated the legislative action that led to Kentucky’s recognition of this date. When we learned that former State Representative Ron Cyrus had died of mesothelioma, we and friends and family in Kentucky contacted our legislators and requested that they honor his memory by officially recognizing Mesothelioma Awareness Day annually. Though September 26th is officially Mesothelioma Awareness Day, it is difficult to get media attention because no events are scheduled.
KY officially recognized September 26th as Mesothelioma Awareness Day with SB 62. Here is the link for SB 62 and its progress through the legislative process. Click on SB62 to read the bill.
Mesothelioma Awareness Day is sponsored by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The Foundation selected September 26th as an annual Mesothelioma Awareness Day and encourages Congress, states and cities to recognize the date. Here is the link for info about Mesothelioma Awareness Day 2013.

Our environment is saturated with asbestos, and everyone is at risk. Todd (1967-2006) was born and reared in Lexington and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky. His asbestos exposure was non-occupational.
Thanks for anything you can do to make your readers aware of mesothelioma and Mesothelioma Awareness Day in KY.
