A fire destroyed an Eveleigh Road residence on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 18.

At around 5:02 p.m. on Wednesday, the Leitchfield Fire Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported structure fire across from 1970 Eveleigh Road in Leitchfield.

Firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours and 15 minutes, but the residence, a summer home owned by Kenny Newton, of Mount Washington, was quickly determined a total loss, said First Assistant Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall.

Two firefighters were transported from the scene by Grayson County Emergency Medical Services to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the blaze.

The injured firefighters were in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, Duvall said.

The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined, but, Duvall said, electricity was a factor.

Newton told firefighters that the residence had been broken into several times since he’d purchased it, but LFD personnel couldn’t confirm if that related to the cause of the Wednesday blaze, said Duvall.
