Leitchfield looks to be one step closer to gaining a new restaurant.

The Leitchfield City Council, during a special-called meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 28, approved the sale of a City-owned property on South Main St. to a restaurant chain pending the chain’s approval of the offer.

During the meeting, the City Council entered into an executive session to discuss the sale of the former XYZ Auto Sales/Sonic location at 511 South Main St. in Leitchfield.

Following the executive session, the City Council passed a motion to approve the sale of the property to a restaurant chain for the price of $200,000.

City Officials have not yet announced what restaurant chain is interested in purchasing the property, which currently belongs to the city and Leitchfield-Grayson County Industrial Development Corporation.

Leitchfield City Clerk/Treasurer Kim Sowders said the next step in the sale of the property will be to wait and see if the restaurant chain accepts the city’s price.

Leitchfield Mayor William Thomason said the restaurant chain is currently awaiting approval from its corporate office to sign off on the purchase.

Thomason said the new restaurant would “help the community tremendously,” by providing new jobs for citizens, especially youth workers, as well as bringing in further revenue for the city via the restaurant tax.

The Grayson County News-Gazette will follow this story as it develops. For more information, look for upcoming editions of the paper or visit www.gcnewsgazette.com.
