The rides sit empty at the Grayson County Fair Grounds in anticipation of the opening of the 65th fair when the gate will open on Tuesday, Aug 26.
This week-long event will continue through Saturday night and end with the annual Labor Day Parade, which runs through the streets of Leitchfield on Monday, Sept 1.
The gates open at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Admission to the fair is the same as it has been for the last four years. 10 dollars will get you in the gate and allow you to enjoy all the attractions and ride the carnival rides all night long.
This year’s fair boasts most of the same events that were there last year with the exception of the magician, who will not return this year. There will be everything from beauty pageants, demolition and lawnmower derbies, truck and tractor pulls, karaoke and tons of great prizes from different booths.
An old time favorite returns this year after being absent last year. The annual Mrs. Grayson County Fair will return to the Thursday night schedule. This contest is open to any contestant who is 19 years of age and older and married.
The Grayson County News-Gazette’s staff will man a booth in the fairway each night, and fair-goers are invited to come by and sign up for a subscription and receive a FREE ICE CREAM CAKE from Dairy Queen.
The Labor Day Parade on Sept. 1 will finish off Grayson County Fair Week. Line up for the parade begins at 8 a.m. at the South Gate Mall, South Main Street and West White Oak Street. The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. and march as directed to the Grayson County Fair Grounds.
