A tractor trailer struck a dump truck then overturned onto a Chevrolet Tahoe on the Western Kentucky Parkway on Thursday afternoon.

At about 3:06 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, Grayson County Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a semi that had turned over on its side near the 104 mile marker of the parkway.

According to investigating Trooper Brandon Brooks, of the Kentucky State Police, prior to the accident, traffic on the westbound side of the parkway had been backed up due to road work.

The driver of the semi, Damir Haskic, of Bowling Green, came up on the slowed traffic, hit his break, and swerved to the inside lane to avoid crashing into the vehicles ahead of him.

The semi then became wedged between a dump truck and the inside guard rail, which caused it to flip over on the Tahoe, located in the median of the parkway, Brooks said.

No one involved in the accident was injured as a result of the crash.

One individual, Carl Powell, was seated in the dump truck at the time of the accident, and the Tahoe was unoccupied. Both vehicles were stationary for the road work taking place, according to Brooks.

The Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the accident, as well, to prevent diesel fuel from leaking out of the semi.

Leitchfield Fire Chief Jerry Schlosser said on the scene that about five gallons of fuel had drained from the tractor trailer before firefighters stopped the leak.

The KSP charged Haskic with careless driving and for his load not being secured, Brooks said.

A representative of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advised drivers to exercise caution when driving on the WK Parkway while road work is being done.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office also responded to the crash.
