A car caught on fire on the Western Kentucky Parkway on the morning of Saturday, March 22.

At around 11:21 a.m. on Saturday, the Leitchfield Fire Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a Ford Taurus on fire near the 102 mile marker on the eastbound side of the parkway.

According to First Assistant Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall, the owner of the Ford, Carl Meredith, of Leitchfield, said another driver had moved beside him and told him to pull over because sparks were coming from beneath the car.

Meredith told firefighters that something had been dragging beneath the Ford, and after he pulled the car over to the emergency lane, “flames shot out both sides of it,” said Duvall at the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within three to four minutes, and no one was injured as a result of the fire, Duvall said.
