Leitchfield’s one and only Animated Christmas Light Show has officially returned to spread holiday cheer for its seventh year.
Set up by AdvanScapes Lawn and Landscaping Owner Chad Franich at his home at 120 Crossride Drive, the show features about 40,000 Christmas lights synchronized to 15 minutes of classic Christmas music on radio station 95.5 FM.
The show, which started in 2007, will run every night through New Year’s from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Donations are accepted and will go into expanding the show.
Franich said he was inspired to start the light show by his mother as a way of entertaining his community during the holiday season.
“My mom would always take us to the bigger cities to see Christmas lights,” he said. “When she passed away, I wanted to do something myself.”
Franich said he starts arranging the lights and music for the show the night after Halloween, and, with the help of friends, family, and co-workers, Franich has the show ready for public-viewing on Thanksgiving Day.
Each light and musical note in the show is synchronized meticulously by Franich himself via a home computer program.
As an example, Franich discussed the 2013 addition of a new, patriotic song, “Proud to be an American,” of which he said he listened to more than 500 versions before finally settling on the one he preferred.
After selecting the music, Franich then breaks down the song by individual seconds and synchronizes the lights with various parts of the song for the most dramatic effect.
This year’s show will also see the addition of the “singing faces,” a set of lights that form a face and “sing” along with the Christmas music.

Feedback is encouraged and appreciated, Franich said.
