The Grayson County Alliance Food Pantry is struggling to keep up with increased community needs this holiday season.

Food Bank volunteers and donors work year-round to provide food to local families, seniors and children who might otherwise go hungry.

This year, according to Alliance representative Betty Witten, the number of people served by the Food Pantry has increased over previous years. October’s numbers of individuals and families in need increased significantly, and the numbers are expected to continue growing.

In order to meet community needs, the Alliance runs a direct-mail campaign to encourage local donations each year.

“Last year saw the most generous donations ever.” Witten said, ” However, this year, the numbers are not sufficient to support the need, and nowhere near the amount that has been received in years past.”

Witten said that the organization is in serious need of help currently - both from donors and volunteers.

“If you have received your campaign letter and already responded, thank you so much! If you have not yet responded, or failed to get a letter and would like to help your neighbors, please contact the Grayson County Alliance at 125 E. Market Street, Suite 3, Leitchfield, KY 42754, ” she said.

All donations are tax-deductible.

Anyone interested in additional information or who wishes to volunteer their time with the Food Pantry or any of the Alliance’s other programs, may call (270) 259-4000 to speak with a representative of the organization.
