A substantial search effort was conducted on Saturday in hopes of finding clues to the whereabouts of a Caneyville mother who has been missing since June 4.

A combined effort between the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Grayson County Emergency Management, the search was organized to cover an area of extreme interest in the case of missing person Melvia Roarx, a 28-year-old woman from Caneyville.

Approximately 42 volunteers from Grayson and surrounding counties came together to assist in the search, according to Ernie Perkins, head of Emergency Management. Various search and rescue teams were represented, including volunteer teams with trained cadaver and live search dogs.

The group gathered at a make-shift command center on Coon Hollow Road before breaking into teams that searched through fields, wooded areas, wells and various other points of interest.

After approximately 10 hours of carefully combing through the mapped-out areas, Sheriff Rick Clemons reported that while the group made no notable discoveries, the effort did help to “eliminate multiple areas thought to be of interest.”

GCSO Detective Jeff Kelsey is in charge of the open investigation into Roarx’ disappearance.
