Plenty of Halloween activities for all the little ghosts and goblins can be found across Grayson County in the coming weeks.

The holiday celebrations will kick off on Friday,Oct. 25 at Rough River Lake State Resort with the park’s annual ‘Halloween Spooktacular’.

Everyone is invited to reserve a spot at the campground and participate in a weekend filled with fun, including hayrides, pumpkin painting and decorating, Halloween crafts, costume contests, a campsite decorating contest and trick-or-treating throughout the campground.

For more information on this family-friendly event, contact the State Park at (270) 257-2311.

On Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31, there will be plenty of free, candy-filled events for families to choose from.

The county’s largest Halloween gathering will be the annual ‘Safe Spot’ event at the Grayson County Fairgrounds.

According to organizer Angie Jones, the event will consist of a wide variety of booths and stations manned by businesses and groups from the area. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and run until 8 p.m.

There will be plenty of treats to go around and maybe even a few tricks.

Anyone interested in setting up a no-cost booth can contact Jones at (270) 259-4925.

Another popular spot each year is First Baptist Church of Leitchfield, which hosts an annual ‘Trunk or Treat’ event in their parking lot on East Walnut Street.

In addition to goodies for the kids, this event offers free food and inflatables.

The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. For more information, contact FBC at (270) 259-4076.

Another ‘Trunk of Treat’ will be held at Clarkson City Hall from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Clarkson Mayor Bonnie Henderson said at a recent City Commission meeting that anyone interested in setting up a booth at City Hall’s parking lot from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Halloween is welcome.

For more information, contact (270) 242-6997.

Many trick-or-treaters also choose to go door-to-door. Official trick-or-treating hours have been set from 5 p.m. through 8 p.m.

Trick-or-treaters should be sure to exercise caution, and young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
