UPDATED: Two people were injured when a single vehicle overturned into the median of the Western Kentucky Parkway on Friday, September 27.

At approximately 5:47 p.m. on Friday, the Leitchfield and Clarkson Fire Departments, Grayson County Emergency Medical Services, and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident near the 112 mile marker of the parkway.

Leonardo Ruiz, 45, of Louisville, was travelling eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder, according to the GCSO.

Ruiz reportedly told the GCSO that wind off a tractor trailer beside him caused his vehicle to start swerving.

Ruiz’s vehicle and the 16-feet travel trailer in pull then overturned and came to a rest in the median, the GCSO reports.

Two passengers, Joel Ruiz, 11, and Carla Cardona, 15, of Louisville, received minor injuries as a result of the accident and were transported by GC EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

Also in the vehicle at the time of the accident were Noibia Ruiz, Jennifer Ruiz, and Yaidel Zulueta, of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The Nissan was severely damaged, and the travel trailer was destroyed, with parts of the trailer littered on both sides of the parkway, as a result of the accident, the GCSO reported.

Traffic on the parkway was shut down for around two hours, the GCSO said.
