A 67-year-old man lost his life this weekend along the banks of Nolin Lake, just off of Shady Lane Drive in Grayson County.
According to responding officer Deputy Bryan Hammons, with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethtown resident Allen Davies owned a vacation home on Nolin Lake and was operating a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) nearby when an accident occurred.
According to Hammons, Davies’ UTV was being operated on very uneven ground approximately 30 feet from the water at the time of the accident, which took place below the red line on Corps of Engineers property. The vehicle ran over a large rock, causing it to tilt over onto the driver’s side.
Davies was thrown out of the vehicle and subsequently died at the scene as a result of injuries from the accident.
Hammons called the incident “unfortunate” and said that while the UTV had seatbelts, they were not being used at the time of the accident.
“If he’d had a seatbelt on, it could possibly have saved him,” Hammons said, advising others to always wear safety belts on any UTV that has them. He also urged riders to “use caution on uneven ground.”
In addition to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Wax Volunteer Fire Department, EMS and the Grayson County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
