Leitchfield has been named to the list of ‘Top 50 Safest Cities in Kentucky’ according to a recent report from national security-advising network SafeWise Security Systems.
Based on FBI crime report statistics and other research, the company put together a list of Kentucky cities with the lowest violent and property crime rates, releasing the report on Monday, June 2.
Leitchfield came in at number 39, according to SafeWise.
“With no murders reported in 2012 and an otherwise commendable crime rate, Leitchfield prides itself in keeping its residents safe both in and out of their homes,” the report reads.
The city’s violent crime rate, according to SafeWise.com is 1.18 per 1,000 residents. The property crime rate comes in somewhat higher at 24.39 per 1,000.
The company went on to mention the non-crime-related benefits of the city’s cozy spot “nestled between its Twin Lakes, Nolin Lake and Rough River Lake,” as well as a variety of entertainment options, specifically naming “the annual Twin Lakes National Fiddler Championship, Grayson County Fair, Art in the Park, Freedom Fest, the Ice Cream Festival, the Grayson County 4-H and FFA Ag Fair, and a Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.”
