Caneyville’s Woodmen of the World hosted a special dinner on Monday evening to recognize local school bus drivers for their efforts in getting our community’s children to and from school safely.

Certificates of appreciation were handed out to many drivers who were present at the event, including some who have driven a bus for 20, 30, or even 40 years. The longest-standing driver present was Lloyd Napier, who has spent four decades transporting children for the school system.

GC Schools’ Director of Transportation, Arnold Hack, addressed the group as well. He thanked the drivers, who he said are often unsung heroes, and expressed pride in his staff’s dedication and effort.

Hack confided that when he took his current position, he intended to retire after just a few years, but thanks to the fantastic staff he is privileged to work with, he has continued on as Transportation Director for more than a decade.

He also thanked Caneyville’s Woodmen of the World for their support year-in and year-out, as the only local organization to recognize the bus drivers annually. “There are other groups who recognize their efforts once in a while,” Hack said, “but the Woodmen do this every year.”
