A Falls of Rough woman is dead following a two-vehicle accident on Yeaman Road on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5.
88-year-old Elwanda Joiner died as a result of injuries sustained when the 2000 Saturn in which she was a passenger struck a tobacco wagon from behind, according to Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson.
According to Lieutenant Pat Bentley with Kentucky State Police Post 4, the Saturn was driven by Joiner’s husband, 85-year-old Virgil Joiner, who sustained numerous injuries in the collision. He was taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by Grayson County EMS before being transported to University Hospital in Louisville for more specialized care.
As of press time, Bentley said that Virgil Joiner remained at University Hospital and was listed in fair condition.
The fatal accident is still under investigation by KSP Trooper Brad Riley, and according to Bentley it has not yet been determined what caused the Joiner’s vehicle to collide with the wagon, which was being pulled by a tractor driven by Charles Green, of Caneyville.
Green suffered no injuries in the accident.
KSP was assisted at the scene by Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
