Fellow Kentuckians,

On January 20, 2014, the Commonwealth will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort. This historic landmark has been home to 25 governors and their families, and has served as an impressive setting for welcoming dignitaries from across the globe, as well as the citizens of the Commonwealth.

In honor of this occasion, Steve and I, along with former governors and their families, will host the Mansion Centennial Celebration - a yearlong series of events that will highlight the role the Governor’s Mansion has played in Kentucky’s past, and its potential impact on future generations.

We invite Kentuckians from across the state to join us in the Celebration!

In addition to the celebratory events throughout 2014, we want to distinctly honor and involve every Kentucky county in a special Centennial project that will benefit Mansion guests for years to come. The “County Seats Legacy Project” will give each county an opportunity to sponsor a handcrafted, locally-sourced chair made by Berea College students for use at the Mansion.

The chairs the Mansion currently uses for large-scale, seated events are in ill condition, unsafe for guests and in desperate need of replacement. With tightening budgets and difficult financial times, we have delayed replacing them until it is absolutely necessary to do so.

To solve the seating dilemma, the Kentucky Executive Mansions Foundation Inc. (KEMFI, an IRS Section 501(c)(3) organization), has contracted with Berea College to produce 120 new, traditional and functional chairs to use at the Mansion.Berea student-artists will design, build, and upholster each chair; only using locally-sourced and sustainable maple wood to construct the chair frames.

Your county can be a part of the “County Seats Legacy Project” by sponsoring one of these handcrafted chairs.

Each county that facilitates a tax-deductible donation of $1000 will have a name plaque placed on the back of a chair and sponsors will be invited to attend a special unveiling ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion during the Centennial kick-off week.

Steve and I hope that all 120 counties will choose to be represented at Mansion by taking part in this unique legacy project.

How can you help your county sponsor a chair?
