Meet your local and state candidates for the upcoming elections at a special event hosted by the Leitchfield Woman’s Club next Saturday, April 25.
The event, which includes a meal, will kick off at the Centre on Main at 5 p.m. Visitors have the opportunity to mingle and speak with candidates, while those running for office will be invited to address the group if they would like.
Event chairperson Dot McCall, who also serves as the club’s Second Vice President, said that the group has held similar events in the past and enjoyed “huge crowds” coming out to meet their future elected officials.
McCall said that reservations are strongly recommended for the event, which will include soup, sandwiches, desserts and drinks in the $10 door price ($5 for children). The meal will be served between 5 p.m. and 7 pm.
A short auction will also be held with items donated by candidates and the community. The proceeds from the event will go toward the Woman’s Club’s upcoming community service projects.
McCall said that the group reaches out to better the community through a wide variety of projects including providing shoes for underprivileged children in the community, contributing to the annual fiddling festival and art in the park, donating backpacks filled with food to hungry Grayson County kids, supporting Halloween Safe Spot, Clear Choices Women’s Ministry, visiting nursing homes, etc.
The group, which was instated in Leitchfield in 1928 is thought to be the oldest continuously meeting service organization in the county.
