Local resident Nik Dunkelberger celebrated the opening of his new business, Eternal Addiction Tattoo, on Public Square on June 9.
Dunkelberg said that opening the doors to his own tattoo parlor fulfilled a long-time dream of his in addition to giving the community a local option for well-priced professional tattoo work.
The feedback so far has been entirely positive, said Dunkelberger, who has already completed a number of pieces for local individuals in the past two weeks.
While working on his Bachelor’s degree in Communications years ago, Dunkelberger said that he enjoyed taking art classes, and soon became interested in using his artistic ability as a tattoo artist.
He did his first tattoo on himself, and eventually began working in tattoo shops in Owensboro to gain additional experience and to learn from long-time artists. “There are small details that you’ve got to learn from somebody in the business,” he said.
When asked what his favorite piece done to date is, he said that he created a shoulder-piece tattoo on his wife which incorporated their wedding flower, the orchid.
With eight years of experience now under his belt, Dunkelberger is excited to open up the first local tattoo parlor to be in Leitchfield in seven years.
The business owner explained that his focus is on both quality and cleanliness.
“I don’t have any reusable equipment,” he said, “I don’t trust a machine to sterilize.” Instead, Dunkelberger utilizes single-use equipment so that there is “no running risk of contaminating anything.”
Dunkelberger encourages the public to stop by his shop at 23 Public Square or contact him at 270-230-7056 for more information.
The shop is open from 5 p.m. until 12 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and Wednesdays by appointment.
